Kenya's Deputy Leader Tours Mount Kenya Area.
Kithure Kindiki made his first trip as Deputy President to Mount Kenya. He visited Embu and Nyeri counties ahead of President William Ruto's upcoming visit.
Last Friday, in Nyeri, Kindiki spoke about former leader Rigathi Gachagua. He asked him to stop his political work and help the area grow. This marked the first time a top official had visited Gachagua's home area since he left office.
Kindiki checked road work and power plans in Kieni. He said the state wants to fix people's problems, not make fights. "We must help the public, not waste time with angry words," he said.
The visit brought promises of new roads worth 17 billion shillings. He also pledged 8.7 billion shillings to bring power to more homes in Mount Kenya. Kindiki said politics can wait. "If we play politics, the people suffer," he added.
On Saturday, Kindiki met with bike riders in Embu. He rode a bike himself and wore a safety hat. Moses Kuria, a key state adviser, came with him. Before this, Kindiki went to Jamhuri High School's birthday event.
He later traveled north with President Ruto to Mandera and Wajir. In Mandera, Kindiki backed Ruto's wish to unite the land. "We want one Kenya where all parts grow the same," he said.
Earlier, Kindiki met leaders from Samburu. He asked people to give Ruto time to keep his promises. "You can't judge five years of work in just two," he said.
In Wajir, Kindiki and Ruto started new building work. The state plans to make 250,000 homes each year. "The Wajir houses will need 500 million shillings," Kindiki said. They also opened a blood bank and a museum in Wajir.
