Zimbabwe's government characterized the Knockmalloch Housing Project in Chegutu as a significant achievement in its residential construction initiative, demonstrating dedication to delivering contemporary and affordable dwellings to citizens under Vision 2030. The Urban Development Corporation is implementing the development alongside the Ministry of National Housing and Social Amenities to produce over 3,500 residential units, representing one of the nation's largest active public housing undertakings.
Corporation chief executive Joey Shumbamhini stated the project supports governmental efforts to provide adequate housing access while stimulating employment and economic expansion. Housing Minister Zhemu Soda disclosed in August that 70 percent of the revised target of one million residential units had been completed nationwide. The development integrates essential infrastructure, including roads, water systems, and electricity, alongside community facilities.
Beneficiary Lillian Choruwa expressed relief after waiting nearly ten years for construction to advance, describing the progress as transforming her homeownership aspirations into reality.
