KPC offers prayers as its bus meets a Kenya Railways train

A fatal collision between a Kenya Pipeline Company bus and a cargo train killed nine people Thursday afternoon in Morendat, Naivasha. The bus carried thirty-two employees returning from their morning shift when the train struck it at a railway crossing near Morendat Training and Conference Centre. Four KPC staff members and five contracted cleaning service workers died in the accident. The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum confirmed the casualties Friday.

Several injured victims receive medical treatment at hospitals in Naivasha and Nairobi. Some patients require surgery after further medical evaluation. One person at Kijabe Hospital remains stable while being treated for fractures. KPC Managing Director Joe Sang visited both the accident scene and hospitalized survivors. Principal Secretary for Petroleum Mohamed Liban accompanied him during the visits.

Authorities have launched investigations to determine what caused the collision. The Ministry works with government agencies, Kenya Railways, and KPC to gather information about the incident. Officials asked the public to avoid the accident site while emergency teams complete their work. KPC pledged continued support for affected families and staff members. The company will release victim names after notifying their relatives.
