Kratos gets an Egyptian sword in the new God of War

Leaker Tom Henderson revealed details about future God of War projects during Insider Gaming's recent podcast episode. Henderson discussed Sony Santa Monica's development of both a rumored 2.5D Metroidvania spin-off and a new mainline installment. The industry insider suggested the spin-off might receive an announcement at the next State of Play event before September ends. Henderson indicated that the main series entry will feature Kratos wielding an ancient Egyptian blade. The weapon Henderson described resembles a curved sword similar to those found in Prince of Persia games.

This Egyptian weapon likely references the Khopesh, a sickle-shaped blade that ancient Egyptians developed from battle axes. Such weaponry suggests an Egyptian mythological setting for the upcoming game. Game Director Cory Barlog previously mentioned Egyptian and Mayan mythologies as potential future settings before the 2018 God of War release. The Norse saga concluded three years ago with Ragnarök's launch. Meanwhile, an Amazon Prime Video adaptation will begin filming in March 2026.
