KRG's Bawanur Dam project to transform agriculture and energy in Garmian

Kurdistan authorities are advancing a 250 billion dinar hydroelectric facility on the Sirwan River that officials expect will rank as the region's third-largest power generator while storing 30 million cubic meters for irrigation. The Bawanur Dam construction between Darbandikhan and Kalar districts aims to revive tens of thousands of agricultural dunams in the Garmian administration zone and develop aquaculture operations.

A consortium pairing Zozk with Romanian firm Hidroconstrucția and contractor Habika is executing the project under supervision from the agriculture ministry and the dam directorate. The facility forms part of the Ninth Cabinet's comprehensive water security blueprint that has already delivered eight dams and 120 ponds, pushing total regional storage capacity to 10 billion cubic meters.
