Kurdistan pays off Baghdad as D.C. praises its oil

Kurdistan Regional Government deposited 120 billion Iraqi dinars into Baghdad's federal finance ministry account Thursday. The transfer represents July non-oil revenues aimed at securing public sector salary payments. Officials emphasized constitutional rights while dismissing recent advisory opinions from Baghdad's State Shura Council as non-binding.

Secretary of Energy Chris Wright praised Kurdistan's energy partnerships with American companies during Washington remarks. Wright described the $110 billion agreement as beneficial for regional development and global energy markets. He criticized European energy policies while supporting expanded international cooperation.

Kurdistan announced oil production levels reached 234,000 barrels daily with exports resuming within two days. The trilateral framework between Erbil, Baghdad, and international firms represents progress after March 2023 export suspensions. Regional authorities view these developments as affirmation of federal partnership rather than subordinate status.
