Lagos building collapse leaves five dead

Five people have died after a three-story building fell in Lagos at Ojodu Berger. Emergency teams pulled twenty survivors from the broken building pieces. NEMA officials told reporters that the rescued people include nine men and one woman. The death count shows three women and two men lost their lives when the structure came apart.

LASEMA first announced just one death Saturday, but found four more victims Sunday as they kept searching. Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu said workers took all dead bodies to the morgue. Rescue teams stay at the accident spot looking for anyone else trapped inside. Police shared different numbers through their spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, who claimed twenty-three people made it out alive, with only two deaths.

As night fell on Sunday, numbers from different emergency groups still didn't match each other. Teams continued digging through the remains of the collapsed building, hoping to find more survivors. Local residents watched as heavy equipment moved broken concrete slabs. Medical staff waited nearby, ready to help anyone rescued. Officials promised they would keep working until everyone was found.
