Some sketch Facebook account posted this whole sob story pretending to be Larry Madowo, claiming Tanzanian officials wanted him dead and asking people to send money to some random bank account. The CNN reporter shut that down real quick, saying it was completely fake.
The bogus post showed up after Madowo did this investigation about Tanzanian cops allegedly killing protestors who were mad about their recent election results. The government over there got pretty heated about his reporting and held press conferences trashing it, but they never actually said what parts were wrong. The European Parliament even voted to potentially cut funding to Tanzania because of what the report showed.
Madowo has been getting trolled hard by people who seem like paid government bloggers, even though tons of regular Tanzanians were changing their profile pics to his face to thank him for covering stuff their own media was banned from reporting on.
