Lartey Storms Care Homes to Rescue Special Needs Kids

Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey toured children's homes across Accra and found troubling conditions. The Gender Minister saw overcrowded facilities struggling to help vulnerable kids. Many parents abandon children with special needs at care centers across Ghana. Government officials promise better support for families dealing with disabilities. Corporate partners will join efforts to improve living conditions at these locations.

Osu Children's Home serves kids with epilepsy and autism without proper equipment. Center Manager Dr Dartey Reindorf spends 5,000 cedis weekly just on medicine costs. The facility cannot accept new children because current spaces remain full. Caregivers handle twenty children each but need triple that staff number. Parents travel from northern regions seeking help for disabled children.

Lartey wants specialized institutions built specifically for children with complex medical needs. Her ministry plans discussions with stakeholders about targeted funding strategies. Budget allocations must increase to support inclusive policies across Ghana. Private sector companies should partner with government agencies on care improvements. The minister believes collective action can create dignity for all vulnerable children.
