Law Ministry to Withdraw 20,000 Politically Motivated Cases in Six Months

Bangladesh plans to drop 20,000 court cases against citizens over the next six months. Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul announced the government will remove false charges that hurt innocent people. Officials say these cases were created to attack political opponents during past rule. The ministry wants to free people from unfair legal problems that damaged their lives. About 300,000 citizens will benefit from this decision.

The government already suggested removing 12,000 cases through careful review. A special committee led by Dr Nazrul has met 16 times to study each situation. The group examines documents from local offices and legal experts before making recommendations. District committees send case lists to help speed up the process. Political parties must provide proper paperwork to make withdrawals happen faster.

The BNP party submitted details about 16,000 cases earlier this year. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami gave information about 1,200 cases in April. Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh recently filed papers about 44 cases in May. The committee has already approved withdrawal for about half of the submitted cases. Quick action follows proper document review.

Some political groups delay the process because they send incomplete paperwork. The ministry needs first information reports and charge sheets with each case list. Missing documents slow down the withdrawal process and hurt affected citizens. The law ministry asks all parties to send complete files for faster results. Proper documentation helps officials make quick decisions about each case.
