Drug agents found huge amounts of illegal substances worth N777 million across Edo State. Officers collected over 53,000 kilograms of dangerous drugs during their operations. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency shared these numbers during a Monday meeting with reporters. Commander Mitchell Ofoyeju spoke about what his team accomplished from January through June 2025. He explained how much work went into catching drug dealers around the state.
Cannabis made up most of the seized substances at 53,441 kilograms. Officers also grabbed small amounts of cocaine and heroin from criminals. They discovered methamphetamine and other mind-altering drugs during raids. The haul contained 1,915 bottles of cough syrup mixed with codeine. Agents even found cookies that had cannabis baked inside them.
Police arrested 209 people suspected of selling drugs during this six-month period. Men made up 129 of these arrests and women accounted for 80 cases. Courts convicted 24 drug dealers already and sent them to prison. Another 110 cases are still working their way through the legal system waiting for trials.
Two suspects were caught selling drugs near Government Reserve Area at Ihiama Road. This neighborhood has become famous for drug dealing activities. The command helped 194 people who struggled with drug addiction problems. Most of these clients were men but 59 women also received counseling services. Officers plan to keep raiding drug warehouses and destroying cannabis farms across the region.
