NDLEA destroys 18000kg of cannabis, arrests four in Ugbogui, Edo

National Drug Law Enforcement Agency officials eliminated over eighteen thousand kilograms of marijuana during enforcement activities in Edo State. Commander Mitchell Ofoyeju announced the destruction through an official statement released Monday in Benin City. Anti-narcotics agents conducted the elimination operation on September 11, 2025, within Ugbogui Forest located in Ovia South West Local Government Area. Officers targeted individuals cultivating illegal cannabis crops throughout the region.

Enforcement teams captured four men who had established temporary shelters near the plantation site. Authorities identified three suspects as residents of Akwa Ibom State, while one originates from Delta State. The detained individuals are Ebenezer Wang, age forty-eight, from Uyo, Oshare John, age forty-five, from Ughelli South, Emmanuel Monday, age twenty-nine, from Eket, and David Sunday, age thirty, from Ugad. Investigators continue examining the case before filing formal court charges against the suspects. Ofoyeju warned that illegal drug farming threatens regional food production capacity.
