Lawyer Monday Ubani backs Tinubu on Rivers emergency

Senior Advocate Monday Ubani defended President Tinubu's emergency declaration during a Wednesday interview on Arise Television. The legal expert argued that federal intervention prevented Rivers State governance from collapsing entirely. Ubani explained that legislative dysfunction between the governor and assembly members created an untenable administrative situation.

The Supreme Court had previously ruled against gubernatorial operations with merely four assembly representatives. Ubani noted that this constitutional violation rendered the state's budget appropriation legally invalid. Economic destruction and ongoing political warfare prompted presidential concern about further deterioration.

Federal mediation efforts at Aso Rock produced a peace agreement between conflicting parties. The memorandum of understanding failed to establish lasting harmony between rival factions. Ubani characterized the emergency measure as preventive action against potential governmental breakdown throughout the oil-rich region.
