Leverkusen Pounces on Top Dutch Keeper Flecken

Bayer Leverkusen signed Dutch keeper Mark Flecken from Brentford. The German team announced the deal on their website Tuesday. Flecken agreed to a contract that runs through summer 2028. The 31-year-old brings solid experience from England and Germany. He played 80 games for Bundesliga teams and 74 matches with Premier League clubs.

Flecken started his career at Roda Kerkrade as a youth player. He moved to Alemannia Aachen and signed his first pro deal during 2011. The goalkeeper made headlines at MSV Duisburg when he scored a rare goal. Freiburg noticed his talent and brought him to their squad. He helped them reach the DFB-Pokal final during the 2022 season.

The Netherlands picked Flecken for their national team eight times since March 2022. He played at Euro 2024 for his country last summer. The keeper will face Finland and Malta before taking his vacation. Leverkusen wants players with European tournament experience after their strong recent campaign. Flecken gives them another proven option between the posts.
