Lilongwe Man Arrested After Allegedly Stealing K12 Million from Employer

Lilongwe authorities have detained Gift Kachama for taking K12 million from his workplace on June 18. The 34-year-old man discovered the cash during his assigned duties of cleaning his employer's vehicle at Area 9. Kachama took the money and headed to a local church service. His employer quickly notified police after discovering the missing funds. Officers arrested the suspect at the church following the report.

Kachama first claimed his cousin had committed the crime when questioned. Police continued their interrogation until he confessed to taking the money. The suspect guided officers to a maize field where he had buried part of the stolen cash inside a plastic container. Authorities recovered only K2.5 million from the original K12 million amount. Officers continue searching for the remaining missing money.

Sergeant Khumbo Sanyiwa from Lilongwe Police confirmed the arrest and recovery details. The suspect lives in Mambozi Village under Traditional Authority Chitukula within Lilongwe District. Kachama faces theft charges and will appear before a magistrate court. Police have not revealed what happened to the missing K9.5 million. The investigation remains active as officers work to locate the unrecovered funds.
