Lilongwe thugs hunt Ben Phiri as MCP faces poll flop

Unknown attackers have begun targeting Democratic Progressive Party officials after unfavorable election outcomes for the Malawi Congress Party. The assailants seek revenge against individuals they believe sabotaged MCP electoral strategies. Four men driving a white Fortuner bearing South African registration plates disrupted Sunday morning services at Calvary Family Church in Falls Estate, Lilongwe, searching for Ben Phiri. The DPP Director of Political Affairs remains in hiding after multiple road incidents where unidentified persons followed and blocked his vehicle. Vice President Alfred Gangata confirmed these harassment attempts during recent party discussions.

Malawi Congress Party agents continue intimidating opposition officials according to DPP spokesperson allegations made during a Lilongwe press conference. MCP leaders Vitumbiko Mumba, Jessie Kabwira, and Richard Chimwendo Banda vowed retaliation against what they termed DPP electoral manipulation tactics. The threats emerge as President Lazarus Chakwera and running mate Mumba face widespread rejection across the nation. Unofficial tallies show the ruling party suffering significant losses in the 2025 elections. Many DPP members report living under constant fear due to these intimidation campaigns.
