Lorde teases new album with steamy track Hammer

Lorde fans have just one more week before her new album Virgin arrives this summer. The pop star already shared two early songs called What Was That and Man Of The Year. She just released another track called Hammer as the final preview before the complete album drops.

The new song builds energy without becoming a full dance track. Lorde describes it on social media as her tribute to city living and desire. She worked with Jim-E Stack to write the song, who serves as her main partner on the Virgin project and might be dating her. They teamed up with producer Buddy Ross, who has worked with Frank Ocean and Travis Scott.

The track opens with Lorde singing over growing electronic sounds. Her words focus on wanting human connection and touch on her recent talks about gender identity. She sings about burning, singing, scheming and dancing, mentioning how some days she feels like a woman and other days like a man. The song seems ready to explode into a big moment but pulls back instead.

Director Renell Medrano created the music video, which shows Lorde at her most sensual. The clip features her hanging out with pigeons, dancing with friends, and smoking marijuana near water. She appears to receive a tattoo and spends time naked in a mesh hammock. The video captures her having fun and feeling free.

Virgin comes out June 27 through Universal Records.
