Macauley Bonne demands a Warriors recall for AFCON

England-born striker Macauley Bonne has called for a return to Zimbabwe’s national team following the departure of coach Michael Nees. Citing the urgency of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, Bonne argued that Zimbabwe cannot afford to rely on inexperienced players and needs proven goal scorers like himself.

Bonne said he remains ready to contribute immediately, claiming even half a match would be enough to prove his value. He described AFCON as a high-stakes tournament with no room for experimentation. Reflecting on his connection to Zimbabwe, he spoke emotionally about representing Mbare and young fans who see hope in his performances. He emphasized that his goals carry meaning beyond the pitch.

Having previously faced challenges with eligibility due to passport issues, Bonne said those barriers are now resolved. He urged the Zimbabwe Football Association to give him a fair chance, stressing that results matter more than criticism. With a new coach expected soon, he hopes to be part of efforts to restore pride and avoid further disappointment for the Warriors.
