MACC raids net RM1.6m bling as Selangor airport staff run bribery racket

Anti-corruption authorities seized jewelry weighing 3.2 kilograms valued at RM1.6 million from airport personnel accused of accepting illegal payments. Six counter staff members faced allegations of facilitating unauthorized foreign national entries into Malaysia. Five suspects worked for the Immigration Department, according to deputy chief commissioner Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya. The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission conducted operations between September 9 and 11 across Selangor. Officers targeted assets believed acquired through corrupt practices.

Investigators confiscated additional property consisting of land parcels, residential buildings, premium automobiles, and 75 gold items worth RM400,000. Authorities also recovered designer accessories, 20 expensive timepieces valued at RM100,000, and RM20,000 in currency. Officials froze 70 banking accounts during the operation. Total asset seizures reached approximately RM3.3 million according to commission reports. The syndicate operated by allowing selected travelers to bypass standard immigration procedures through predetermined counter assignments.
