Dr Matthias Magoola won the 2025 African Excellence Award for his drug work. He leads Dei Biopharma in Uganda, where he makes new medicine for people across Africa. The award came from Ghana last month because he helps Africa make its health supplies instead of buying them from other places. His company works on treatments for cancer, HIV, malaria, and many other diseases that hurt African people.
The drug factory is in Matugga and makes vaccines that African farmers need. President Museveni met with him to discuss making Uganda sell drugs to other countries soon. The government wants to change the rules about testing medicine to help local scientists sell what they make. Magoola thanks the president for always helping science grow in the country.
His work matters because it makes medicine cheaper for sick people in Africa. He trains young scientists to keep making new treatments after him. Uganda can treat its people with local medicine instead of buying expensive drugs from far away.
