Mahama inaugurates new Hajj Board with guidelines

Ghana's leader has sworn in a new Hajj Board with instructions to maintain transparent operations through regular updates to the presidential Chief of Staff. John Dramani Mahama emphasized that government backing for the annual pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia must be matched by strict accountability measures.

The board received directions to sustain continuous dialogue with the National Chief Imam's office, regional religious leaders, travel service providers, and Saudi officials to prevent organizational breakdowns. Mahama stated that detailed post-pilgrimage assessments covering financial management, logistics, health protocols, and safety records must reach the Chief of Staff to inform subsequent preparations.

The president warned against allowing the pilgrimage program to become a vehicle for financial exploitation, calling such practices forbidden under Islamic law. He condemned any situation where pilgrims who have spent years accumulating funds face distress or mistreatment from administrators or intermediaries.
