Mahmud Hasan, Mirza Fakhrul demand that Dhaka delay LDC exit

Business executives conducted discussions with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party leadership on Sunday regarding industrial conditions and requests for delayed graduation from Least Developed Country status. Mahmud Hasan Khan from the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association headed the eleven-person team at the Gulshan office meeting. Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir participated alongside other senior party officials during the afternoon session. The delegation emphasized that the current infrastructure remains insufficient for the planned transition from LDC classification. Industry representatives proposed that Bangladesh formally petition the United Nations for assessment teams to evaluate the nation's actual preparedness levels.

Former minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury confirmed that attendees supported requesting a three-year extension rather than permanent postponement of the graduation timeline. Labor law modifications received unanimous approval from the business community during the discussions. Previous negotiations through the Tripartite Consultative Committee achieved consensus on 122 points from 124 total items under consideration. The same industry leaders had previously approached Jamaat-e-Islami leadership on September 14, seeking political support for enhanced commercial policies.
