Majority Leader Urges Clergy to Remain Focused on Faith

The head of the National Assembly, Mr. Ichung'wah, asked church leaders to stay away from politics. He wants them to focus on religion instead.

Mr. Ichung'wah said many church people have stopped doing church work. They act more like politicians these days.

He talked about church health centers that want money from the old health fund NHIF. He said these same leaders stayed quiet when NHIF lost money to theft. They only started asking for cash after SHA took over the debt.

The MP spoke at Mr. Cheptumo's burial in Baringo and urged churches to return to their main job.

President Ruto and other top leaders attended the funeral. Mr. Cheptumo passed away on February 15, 2025, at the age of 57.

Mr. Mudavadi, Mr. Wetang'ula, Mr. Kingi, Cabinet members, and elected officials were also present at the funeral.

Mr. Wetang'ula agreed that church leaders should avoid politics. He said churches should be places where leaders can ask for help and advice.

He also called for more unity when fixing problems. He told leaders to look for answers rather than blame each other. Problems do not go away just because we blame someone.

Mr. Wetang'ula asked churches to keep praying for the country.

Many leaders at the funeral said nice things about Mr. Cheptumo, calling him polite, humble, and hard-working.

Mr. Cheruiyot, who leads the Senate, said Mr. Cheptumo helped young leaders grow. He said Mr. Cheptumo worked hard and showed respect to all.
