Marriam Mtima struggled with math and science before learning about computers that think like humans. The Form Three student at Chimutu Community Day Secondary School lives where digital tools are hard to find. She joined 20 students for a four-day training camp about artificial intelligence technology. The SKC Foundation and Nxtgen Labs created the program to help young people from Mtandwhile community. Students learned skills that most teenagers from their area never see.
The training honored late Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima who died during June 2024. Chilima believed education and technology could change lives for Malawian youth across the country. Mary Chilima leads the SKC Foundation and watched students adapt quickly to difficult concepts. She said the foundation wants to develop young leaders and change how they think about their futures. The program helps children jump over problems caused by poor infrastructure.
Eugene Maseya runs Nxtgen Labs and partnered with the foundation for community innovation projects. He believes education has power to transform lives through meaningful learning experiences. The organizations plan to expand the boot camp to more schools across Malawi. They want to continue the late vice president's dream through bright young minds.
