Malema: EFF Won't Back Down Against Zuma

Julius Malema, the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), says he isn't afraid of Jacob Zuma, the former president and current leader of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK Party). Malema says he's ready to fight Zuma if necessary. He made these comments on the EFF's podcast, which was shared on the party's social media platforms.

Malema says this isn't the first time Zuma has invited him to fight, and he'll do it easily. He says he's not scared of Zuma or his people. Malema believes that anyone who threatens the existence of the EFF can't be a friend, even if they smile in public. He says people keep stabbing him in the back and then want to act friendly when they see him.

Malema's comments come after some high-ranking EFF members, like Floyd Shivambu, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, and Dali Mpofu, resigned and joined Zuma's MK Party. The MK Party is now the third largest party, less than a year after its launch.

Malema says that before the May 29, 2024, elections, Zuma called the EFF and other opposition parties to his homestead in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal. At this meeting, they discussed dissolving the EFF and forming a new party under Zuma's leadership. Malema didn't attend the meeting but sent some of his senior members. He says Dali Mpofu made a presentation at the first meeting, suggesting that the EFF should shut down along with other parties and form something new under Zuma.

Last week, during President Duma Boko's inauguration ceremony in Botswana, Malema spoke to the media about his relationship with Zuma. He says they don't have any relationship beyond being political contenders and leaders of their respective parties. Malema says they'll share a common perspective where they agree on issues and disagree respectfully where they don't.

Malema affirms that the EFF won't fall apart under their watch. He says you can't destroy something you haven't built and that the EFF is their child and baby. They'll decide what to do with it. Malema believes the EFF is the future and can't be destabilized by opportunism.

The EFF is currently preparing for its elective conference next month.
