Comedian Admire Mushambi testified that he lost thousands of dollars after promoting E-Creator as a brand ambassador and never dealt directly with accused masterminds Zhao Jiaotong and Billy Thomas Syedou. Mushambi told Harare magistrate Francis Mapfumo on Tuesday that a team contacted him while he was on holiday in South Africa to livestream a brand activation event, and he recruited influencer Madam Boss, along with family members and friends who could not withdraw funds after the system collapsed.
Prosecutors allege Jiaotong and Syedou registered E-Creator Economic Commerce Private Limited in January 2025 and promised monthly returns on investments up to $1,000 through Ecocash while operating from Joina City in the Harare central business district. Subscribers could not access funds on July 3, 2024, but company representatives blamed a system upgrade before posting a notice on July 5, 2024, that operations had ceased and Jiaotong had fled to China with investor money.
