Markram Ton Seals Proteas WTC Final Glory at Lords

Aiden Markram scored 136 runs as South Africa beat Australia to win their first major cricket trophy. The Proteas needed 282 runs during the final innings at Lord's cricket ground. Markram helped his team reach the target before lunch on day four. South Africa finished with five wickets remaining after the dramatic chase.

The victory ended decades of disappointment for South African cricket fans. Teams from the country had reached just one final across 18 previous World Cup attempts. Last year they lost the T20 World Cup final to India despite needing only 30 runs from 30 balls. Saturday's performance showed much better composure under pressure.

Australia managed 212 runs during their first innings before South Africa replied with 138. The Australians scored 207 during their second turn at bat. Kagiso Rabada took nine wickets across both Australian innings. Captain Temba Bavuma added 66 runs alongside Markram during the successful run chase.
