Rabada Blitzes Australia at Lords Opener

Kagiso Rabada struck twice during one over as Australia collapsed to 16-2 at Lord's Wednesday. The South Africa fast bowler demolished the defending champions early during the World Test Championship final. Rabada returned from a cocaine ban that kept him away from cricket for one month. The 30-year-old bowler has taken more than 300 Test wickets during his career. South Africa captain Temba Bavuma chose to bowl first after winning the coin toss.

Usman Khawaja departed without scoring after facing 20 balls during the seventh over. The opener edged a delivery behind to David Bedingham who caught the ball at first slip. Cameron Green joined Khawaja back to the pavilion after edging Rabada toward second slip. Aiden Markram made a diving catch under the stadium lights to dismiss Green. Steve Smith walked out to bat after Green lost his wicket.

South Africa wants their first major cricket trophy since 1998 when they won the ICC Knockout tournament. Australia holds the top ranking and defeated India during the 2023 World Test Championship final. The Australians have collected several white-ball trophies over recent years. Overcast London weather helped South African bowlers swing the ball early. Bavuma made the right choice to field first under cloudy skies.
