Mashonaland Central Province has set a goal to cultivate over 500,000 hectares for the 2025/2026 summer season, building on its strong agricultural performance from the previous year and favorable rainfall forecasts. Provincial agronomist Cain Loki reported that the province exceeded its 2024/2025 target of 27,000 tonnes of grain by producing 27,910 tonnes, a 3 percent increase. Mazowe District led with 16,600 tonnes.
Preparations for the upcoming season are underway, with 142 collection points established under the Presidential Inputs Scheme, aiming to gather 3,226.1 tonnes. Harvesting is ongoing, with 500 tonnes of wheat already delivered. Livestock conditions are reported as “fair to good,” with over 100,000 cattle, half reserved for breeding.
The province’s 2025/2026 crop plan, aligned with the Government's Agriculture, Food Systems and Rural Transformation Strategy, aims to boost cereal production by 10 percent above national food requirements. Minister of State Christopher Magomo highlighted the province's crop plan, covering 582,325 hectares, and praised government initiatives aimed at enhancing productivity and farmers' security.
