Masvingo Health Officials Accused of Withholding Donated Vehicle

Health officials are keeping a donated vehicle away from Masvingo City Council. The Global Fund gave nine vehicles to different groups across the province last year. Masvingo City Council was supposed to receive one of these vehicles. Ministry workers claim the vehicle is already being used somewhere else. City leaders have been waiting six months to receive their promised vehicle.

Mayor Alec Tabe says his team does not know why the handover keeps getting delayed. He asked the Provincial Medical Director to speed up the process. The mayor explained that growing clinics need this vehicle to serve people better. Health officials have not explained the reason for holding back the vehicle. The Provincial Medical Director refused to answer questions about the situation.

People familiar with the matter say the vehicle arrived months ago and is already working. These sources believe ministry workers are using the vehicle without proper labels. The vehicle carries registration number GHCC3744 according to local reports. Some health officials argue that the city council already has many vehicles. They want to keep the donated vehicle for their own department.

The Global Fund has spent millions helping Zimbabwe fight health problems. This organization provides money for transportation and medical supplies across the country. The vehicle dispute raises questions about how donated resources reach their intended recipients. Many worry that Zimbabwe's struggling health system suffers when resources do not reach the right places. Transparency problems like this one harm efforts to improve medical care for ordinary citizens.
