Masvingo Hospital Workers Appear in Court for Blood Theft

Two hospital employees recently faced theft accusations in court after allegedly taking blood from their workplace. Goodson Dzuwalinyenga, a 50-year-old laboratory scientist, and Tichaona Shindi, a 36-year-old technician, stood before Masvingo magistrate Arafat Kozanayi. The pair works at Masvingo Provincial Hospital where officials claim three blood units vanished from storage. These missing medical supplies have a value of $750.

When they appeared before the judge, both men strongly denied stealing anything. They pointed out that twelve other staff members could enter the blood storage area just as easily. Hospital administrators first noticed the blood shortage on January 28, around 3 p.m., during a routine check. They immediately contacted law enforcement when they realized blood was missing.

Police officers launched an investigation and confirmed that three units had disappeared from inventory. Records showed no documentation about who removed the blood or where it went. The normal procedure requires staff to log any blood removal, but the system contained no entries for these particular units. After looking deeper into the situation, police arrested both Dzuwalinyenga and Shindi.

The case highlights security concerns at medical facilities where valuable supplies require careful tracking. Blood remains an essential resource for emergencies and surgeries, making its theft particularly serious. Both men continue to maintain their innocence as the legal process moves forward. The court has yet to announce when further hearings will take place.
