Matabeleland South readies for Heroes' Day and Defence Forces Day celebrations in Gwanda

Matabeleland South Province advances commemoration preparations for August memorial events. Provincial authorities coordinate Heroes' Day activities at the Gwanda Town shrine on August 11. Defence Forces Day celebrations follow at Phelandaba Stadium on August 12. Minister Albert Nguluvhe oversees provincial ceremonies while President Mnangagwa leads national events in Harare. Mobilization campaigns encourage widespread community participation across districts.

Heroes' Day honors liberation fighters who sacrificed their lives during Zimbabwe's independence struggle. The commemoration recognizes fallen heroes from both wartime and post-independence periods. Minister Nguluvhe emphasizes youth engagement to preserve historical memory. Parliament established the holiday in 1980 following independence.
