Mauritania Spits Out 27 Gambian Migrants

Immigration officials helped 27 Gambians return home from Mauritania on Monday. The group arrived at the Amdalai border station on May 4 with Deputy Mission Head Saikouba Jarjou. These travelers lacked proper documents for staying abroad and missed the chance to register during mobile team visits. Workers processed them at the Migration Management Unit in Tanji before they went back to their families.

Department Director Ebrima Mboob told reporters that people need certain papers to live in other countries. Mauritania asks anyone wanting citizenship to have two written character statements from others. Immigration spokesperson Inspector Sulayman Sambou said police held two men for tricking migrants. Lamin Jawara and Lamin Jammeh gathered people at Jambur, planning to travel without permits. The pair took between 30000 to 50000 dalasis from each person joining their scheme.
