Maxwell’s arm gets smoked, skips New Zealand tour

Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell will miss the T20 series against New Zealand this week after fracturing his arm during practice at Mount Maunganui. The injury occurred when teammate Mitchell Owen struck a powerful shot that hit Maxwell while he bowled in the nets. Cricket Australia confirmed the incident and named wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Philippe as his replacement.

The 36-year-old has suffered multiple unusual injuries throughout his career. Three years ago he broke his leg when someone fell on him at a birthday celebration. He also sustained a concussion at the 2023 World Cup after falling from a golf cart. His participation in the five-match T20 series against India next month remains uncertain.

The injury marks the second blow to Australia's squad after Josh Inglis withdrew earlier this month with a calf strain. New Zealand will host three T20 matches on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at Mount Maunganui. Teammate Matthew Short witnessed the accident from an adjacent practice area and described the impact as severe.
