The Malawi Council of Churches has requested that President Lazarus Chakwera acknowledge his electoral loss from the September 16 general election. Reverend Billy Gamah leads the religious organization and stated that partial Electoral Commission results demonstrate that Chakwera cannot achieve victory. The church leader emphasized that an early concession would reflect strong leadership qualities and encourage peaceful acceptance among political supporters. Gamah believes such actions would demonstrate political maturity while preventing violence and reducing national tensions. Former President Bakili Muluzi has made similar requests for recognition of a graceful defeat.
