McKinstry crushes Mariners dreams in brutal 11th

The Detroit Tigers defeated the Seattle Mariners 3-2 in 11 innings on Saturday night in Game 1 of the American League Division Series. The contest remained tied at 2-2 after nine innings before both teams traded scoreless frames in the 10th. Spencer Torkelson drew a walk to open the 11th inning and advanced to second base on a wild pitch before Zach McKinstry drove him home with a single to center field.

Mariners reliever Andres Munoz recorded a lineout and two strikeouts in the 10th inning to keep the game tied. Tigers pitcher Will Vest forced a groundout, a popout, and a strikeout to send the game to the 11th inning. McKinstry's hit gave Detroit a 3-2 advantage, and the Tigers' pitching staff secured the victory in the series opener.
