MediaTek AI Silicon Snubbed by Windows Big Shots

MediaTek planned to show its new AI smartphone chip at Computex 2025 with NVIDIA, but faces major setbacks. The company struggles to enter the Windows laptop market because laptop makers seem uninterested in its chips. Staff at the MediaTek booth told WinFuture it might take time before anyone sees this chip. Poor relations between MediaTek and Microsoft create barriers for the Taiwanese firm.

These problems help Qualcomm maintain its strong position in ARM-based laptops. The Kompanio Ultra 910 chip, made with advanced 3nm technology, will not appear at the event despite having enough power for Windows machines. Reports say Microsoft once blocked MediaTek from making Windows Phone chips years ago because of business interests. Many Windows Phones used Snapdragon chips instead, suggesting Qualcomm might play a role in keeping rivals away from this market. The AI smartphone chip needs more time before shoppers can buy devices with it inside.
