Medics Plead as Zimbabwe Hospitals Hit Breaking Point

Zimbabwe struggles to repair its ailing hospital system. The country needs more medicines fast. Dr Douglas Mombeshora spoke at a health meeting in Geneva. He said hospitals have very few drugs. Government hospitals only have 22 percent of the necessary medicines.

The health minister acknowledges that the medicine shortage is hurting patients. Officials want to reach 60 percent stock levels. Suppliers take months to make and deliver medicines. The government promised money to two big drug companies. Treasury officials will send funds earlier to prevent problems.

Hospitals also require more oxygen for critically ill patients. President Emmerson Mnangagwa signed deals with Belarus. The agreements will help fix hospitals and buy new equipment. Workers will learn new medical skills. Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare gets help first.

The government wants all hospitals to operate more efficiently. Officials aim to serve patients nationwide. Modern equipment will replace old machines. Better hospitals mean healthier people. Zimbabwe plans to establish a robust healthcare system for all.
