Two guys went to jail after they gave kids booze and hurt them at parties. The court locked them up for almost 39 years together. The National Crime Agency caught these men who attacked two fifteen-year-old girls many times between 2011 and 2012. The judge said these men must stay away from their victims forever.
Romauld Stefan Houphouet from Ivory Coast will spend 20 years behind bars. His friend Absolom Sigiyo from Zimbabwe is 18 years and six months old. Both guys have to put their names on the Sex Offender list because of what they did. Sigiyo tried to scare one girl into lying to the police.
These bad men called the young girls really awful names, like they were objects. The troubles started the first-day Houphouet met these kids when he was 24. He saw them walking downtown and asked them to come to a party with him. He pulled one girl into an empty alley and attacked her right away.
Later he brought both girls to a house where Sigiyo lived with other men waiting there. These guys kept giving the teenagers alcohol all night long at many different parties. The abuse lasted for an entire year at that house and another place where they moved later.
The teenagers wanted to run away from their care home because they felt unhappy there. These men knew exactly how to take advantage of scared kids who needed help. Sigiyo paid taxi money and handed out cigarettes plus alcohol to make them feel special. Then, he demanded sex as payment.
Both men hurt these girls multiple times every week. Houphouet acted super jealous about one girl. He became very mad when he found her with another guy named Jacek Brzozowski during a party. The court will decide what happens to Brzozowski next month.
Investigators from Operation Stovewood talked to these women who are adults today. The brave women told the police everything even though it made them remember terrible things. The officers arrested Sigiyo again when he tried to make one woman lie to protect him.
Police have found more than 1,100 kids who suffered similar abuse around Rotherham. The investigation keeps finding more evidence against lots of people. Already, 42 criminals went to jail because of what officers discovered. More investigations continue as police search for everyone involved.
