Mercedes-Benz India bleeds wallets with record sales

Mercedes-Benz India achieved record September sales with a 36 percent year-over-year increase after selling more than 2,500 vehicles within nine days. The German automaker's subsidiary attributed the surge to customer response following GST 2.0 reforms, and festive season demand drove total quarterly sales to 5,119 units.

Managing Director Santosh Iyer stated the GST rate reduction improved consumer sentiment amid rising operational costs and adverse foreign exchange movements. The luxury segment represented 25 percent of quarterly sales with 12 percent growth, while battery-electric vehicles captured approximately 8 percent of total sales.

The Long Wheelbase E-Class sedan posted 47 percent annual growth to become India's top-selling luxury car. Sport utility vehicles led performance with the GLC, GLE, GLS, and G63 AMG models recording their highest monthly sales figures.
