Mhlanga's bail bid fails again, court says no

The court said no again to Blessed Mhlanga yesterday when he asked to leave jail before his trial. The AMH writer sits behind bars because police think he sent messages that could make people start fights. His lawyer went back to court, claiming things had changed since his first try at freedom. They pointed out that police spent more than a month looking into his case but found nothing new against him.

Mhlanga never tried to talk with anyone who might tell stories at his trial, even when some came to see him in prison. His family struggles without him at home, both with money problems and sad feelings. The defense team hoped these facts would help change the court's mind about letting him go home until his court date arrived. They stressed how unfair it seemed to keep him locked up any longer.

The person speaking for the government, Anesu Chirenje, fought against these claims hard. Chirenje told the judge they made big steps forward with their case against the writer. The court papers sit ready right this minute, and the state wants to set up the trial soon. This progress works against Mhlanga, not for him, as the lawyer had hoped when asking for bail.

Mr. Donald Ndirowei, who runs the court, listened to both sides before making up his mind. He decided the writer might run away if allowed to walk free before his day in court. The judge saw the ready trial papers as proof that things moved along just fine. He believed nothing important had changed since the first time he said no to letting Mhlanga out of jail.

The judge spoke plainly when he threw out the request. He said the writer stays put until his trial happens. Mhlanga faces more waiting time inside prison walls as his case moves toward its final stage. His friends at Alpha Media Holdings watch helplessly as their fellow worker spends more days away from his desk. The charges about stirring up public fights through messages remain hanging over him as the courts prepare to hear all sides.
