MIPAD brings global Black excellence home to Lagos

A group handling the Most Influential People of African Descent awards just met with Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The delegation, led by MIPAD president Kamil Olufowobi, presented the governor with an award for being the most influential governor this year. They recognized his work in trying to make Lagos a global center for culture and business.

This meeting kicks off a weeklong Lagos Diaspora Experience event. For the first time, MIPAD will hold its big annual awards ceremony in Lagos instead of New York. The event plans to celebrate African art, culture, and business achievements. It will end with a major awards night honoring several people.

Key awards will go to figures like Minister Hannatu Musa Musawa, Queen Consort Olorì Atúwàtse III, and OANDO chief Adewale Tinubu. MTN Nigeria CEO Karl Toriola is named CEO of the year. Musicians and media personalities like Davido and Uche Pedro will also receive honors. The Martell Cognac brand was highlighted as a corporate winner. MIPAD's founder stated the goal is to unite and empower Africans globally through this event.
