MKU sells an AI dream while churning out thousands of graduates

Mount Kenya University conducted its 27th graduation ceremony at Thika on August 8, celebrating artificial intelligence as the central theme. The institution conferred degrees upon 8,700 students during the event. Vice Chancellor Professor Deogratius Jaganyi announced thirteen new academic programs focused on data science and artificial intelligence. The university implemented a new digital platform called University Integrated Resource Platform to enhance student services and administrative functions.

The United Nations Academic Impact designated Mount Kenya University as the hub chair for industry, innovation and infrastructure through 2027. Chancellor Professor John Struthers established a five million shilling alumni award for outstanding graduates. Students demonstrated excellence in sports competitions, winning championships in badminton, athletics and woodball at regional tournaments. The drama department earned recognition as the most prolific university group at the Kenya National Drama Festival. Mount Kenya University will represent the region at the East Africa Music, Dance and Drama Festivals in Uganda this month.
