Mlotshwa SRC Exit Shakes Up Zimbabwe Sport

Gerald Mlotshwa stepped down from Zimbabwe's Sports and Recreation Commission after his term ended May 31. The Harare lawyer and his team served six years running the sports regulatory body. Minister Kirsty Coventry first picked Mlotshwa's group on May 31, 2019. The board had Allen Chiura, Colleen de Jong, Gail Van Jaarsveldt, Karen Mutasa, Nigel Munyati and Titus Zvomuya. Eltah Nengomasha worked as director-general.

Coventry trusted the team enough to bring them back for three more years starting May 2022. Karen Mutasa was the only person who left during the second term. The team changed how sports groups across Zimbabwe operate. They fixed problems with governance at national sports associations. Mlotshwa says his board feels thankful for serving the country.

The former commissioners will keep working with sports groups. They all participated in athletics before 2019. Mlotshwa thinks they made sports organizations run better. He says athletics flows through their veins and they will stay involved. The group plans to help Zimbabwe sports in different ways.
