Mnangagwa backs growing SMEs in Zimbabwe

Small businesses drive economic growth, create jobs, and spread wealth, said President Mnangagwa at the opening of Mbare Musika Traders Market. The modern facility helps 1,628 traders start working again after losing their stalls to fire last year. He described SMEs as critical to Zimbabwe's economy, with major contributions to GDP. He recently visited Uganda for talks about job creation for young people and women.

Mnangagwa urged entrepreneurs to build more small companies using new digital technologies. His government will offer low-interest loans, business development help, skills training, and market access. He asked everyone involved to keep rent prices affordable for traders. He wants SMEs working closely with government departments to make small businesses official. The ease of doing business will improve with fewer barriers to starting up, he promised.

The next phase of construction will create a multi-story complex with better toilets, fire safety, and organized trading spaces. Masimba Construction and Mkambo Misika Hubs earned praise for completing Phase 1 quickly. Minister Daniel Garwe mentioned that this market leads to another project that will hold 10,000 traders. The new facilities include banks, police posts, security cameras, modern bathrooms, fire systems, and water supply for everyone using the market.
