Mnangagwa Crowns Zvaraya Liberation Heroine

Zimbabwe President Mnangagwa named Rosemary Zvaraya a liberation heroine after her death Monday at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital. The 78-year-old freedom fighter earned this honor for her dedication to the independence movement.

Zanu PF Secretary-General Obert Mpofu announced the president's decision through a letter to Martin Rushwaya, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet. Her burial will happen on Thursday at Chinhoyi Provincial Heroes Acre. Family members can be reached through the Mashonaland West Provincial Offices.

Zvaraya began her political activism with Zapu in 1962. Because she supported the liberation struggle, she was arrested and detained multiple times during 1974 and 1975. Her commitment to Zimbabwe's independence earned her recognition as a national hero.
