Mnangagwa retires General Sibanda, promotes Tapfumaneyi

Zimbabwe President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has retired General Philip Valerio Sibanda from his position as Commander of the Defence Forces and elevated Lieutenant General Emmanuel Matatu to replace him. Matatu received a promotion to the rank of General as part of the military reshuffle.

Major General Asher Walter Tapfumaneyi has been promoted to Lieutenant General and appointed as Commander of the Zimbabwe National Army. Tapfumaneyi previously organized Mnangagwa's 2023 election campaign through a covert operation known as FAZ that operated outside official party channels.
