Mnangagwa says education shapes Africa's future

At the Third Africa Education Summit in Victoria Falls last Friday, President Emmerson Mnangagwa talked about how education shapes Africa's future. He wants schools to teach skills that help students build up Africa, not just earn certificates. He believes we need to check if our teaching methods actually prepare young people to make Africa modern and industrial. This matters because better education leads to better lives for everyone across the continent.

President Mnangagwa asked education leaders to create bold plans that go beyond just handing out diplomas. He wants schools to develop students who can solve problems. African education systems must consider the special challenges we face as Africans. He pointed out how education quality differs greatly between places, with many schools lacking basic resources and trained teachers. These problems make it hard for Africa to use the full power of its young people.

The President said African countries should work together to fix these problems, especially in teacher training. Zimbabwe has built many new schools to make sure students never walk more than five kilometers to reach one. Zimbabwe wants to share what it has learned about making education available to everyone. They started feeding programs in schools to keep hungry children from missing class, both in cities and rural areas where people struggle financially.

The government has dug water wells at rural schools and villages across the country. This helps with water access and cleanliness and lets schools grow food gardens. These gardens help feed students and bring money to schools. President Mnangagwa emphasized that Africa needs to invest in modern facilities, including clean energy. This would help rural schools access electricity and the internet, which helps with digital learning.

President Mnangagwa believes that African schools should teach innovation and business skills. He wants graduates who can start companies and create jobs for others. The summit brought together leaders from all over Africa to discuss improving education across the continent. The theme focused on using education advances to help Africa develop, with discussions about practical ways to make this happen.
