Modi Cabinet throws Rs 3822 crore at Bihar’s greenfield highway

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs sanctioned highway development worth Rs 3,822.31 crore Wednesday. The approved project creates a four-lane corridor spanning 78.942 kilometers along National Highway 139W in Bihar. Construction will proceed through Hybrid Annuity Mode financing between Sahebganj, Areraj, and Bettiah sections. Seven districts gain improved access to Patna while establishing connectivity to Nepal's border regions. The greenfield alignment reduces travel duration from 2.5 hours to one hour.

Employment benefits reach significant levels with 14.22 lakh direct job opportunities and 17.69 lakh indirect positions. Seven economic nodes under PM Gati Shakti receive enhanced connectivity alongside tourism destinations. Buddhist heritage sites gain better access through this transportation network. Vehicle speeds average 80 kilometers per hour on the completed roadway. Regional commerce benefits from streamlined freight movement and cross-border trade facilitation.
