Mogadishu City Club grovels over the Kenya flag at Nyayo

Mogadishu City Club apologized after supporters disrespected the Kenyan flag during their CAF Champions League match against Kenya Police FC at Nyayo National Stadium on September 20. Video footage showed fans kicking and trampling the flag while another supporter snatched a banner from a Kenyan spectator. The Somali club condemned these actions and offered deepest apologies to Kenya's government and citizens. Officials stated such behavior contradicts football's values of friendship and sportsmanship. The club endorsed any appropriate measures by Kenyan authorities against those responsible.

Kenya's National Flag, Emblems and Names Act protects the flag from disrespectful acts with penalties reaching 5,000 shillings or six months imprisonment. Kenya Police secured a 3-1 victory through goals from Eric Zakayo, Edward Omondi and David Simiyu. The teams meet again this Sunday at Nyayo National Stadium for the return leg. Attention will focus on supporter conduct as much as field performance. The club urged fans to respect all nations and their symbols.
